Israeli Teen Arrested for ISIS Allegiance, Fourth Such Case Recently

Israeli security forces have arrested a 19-year-old resident of Shibli, in northern Israel, on suspicion of identifying with the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization. The arrest was conducted on August 16 by a joint operation of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and the Northern District Police.

During his interrogation, the suspect, Yaakov Shibli, reportedly expressed sympathy for ISIS, viewed content related to the group, and pledged allegiance to them. This marks the fourth such case in recent weeks involving residents of northern Israel facing charges for expressing support for ISIS, indicating a potential rise in the organization's influence and activities within the country.

Following the investigation, the Northern District Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment against Shibli in the Magistrate's Court in Nazareth, charging him with membership in a terrorist organization. The Shin Bet and police emphasized their commitment to combating all activities that threaten national security.

Security officials have noted an increase in the threat level from ISIS and its supporters in Israel since the outbreak of the war. Previous cases include a 20-year-old man who allegedly planned an attack against IDF soldiers and a 15-year-old minor found with instructions for making a suicide belt.
