Israeli Arab Youth Charged with ISIS Membership and Allegiance
The Northern District Prosecution on Monday filed an indictment against a 19-year-old Arab youth from the town of Shibli, accusing him of belonging to the Islamic State (ISIS) and pledging allegiance to the group. The indictment follows an investigation conducted by the police in cooperation with the Shin Bet security agency.
According to the indictment, the youth consumed ISIS content online before formally pledging loyalty and obedience to the organization. Police stated that the indictment was filed as part of a joint security operation between the Northern District's Central Unit and the Shin Bet, targeting young men suspected of being influenced by and identifying with the group's ideology.
This case marks the fourth such indictment revealed by authorities in recent days against young men from the northern region, based on suspicions of ISIS affiliation or ideological alignment. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the specific actions attributed to the defendant, and the charges remain subject to proof in court.
