North Israel Teen Charged With ISIS Membership
A 19-year-old resident of the northern town of Shibli has been indicted for expressing support for the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization. Yaqoub Shibli was arrested on August 16th following a joint investigation by the Northern District Police and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency).
Investigators determined that Shibli had expressed identification with ISIS, viewed content related to the group, and pledged allegiance to it. This indictment is the fourth in recent days against northern residents for similar offenses, all involving alleged sympathy for ISIS.
The indictment, filed by the Northern District Prosecutor's Office in the Nazareth-Nof HaGalil Magistrate's Court, charges Shibli with joining a terrorist organization. The police and Shin Bet stated that they are determined to combat any activity that endangers the state and its citizens, particularly efforts by Israelis to act on behalf of terrorist groups against Israelis, and will continue to thwart such activities.
