Northern Resident Arrested for ISIS Allegiance, Charged
A 19-year-old resident of the northern village of Shibli was arrested and subsequently indicted on charges of allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS). The Shin Bet security agency apprehended the suspect, Yaqoub Shibli, on August 16, 2026, after he allegedly expressed identification with the terrorist organization, viewed its content, and swore loyalty to it. The indictment was filed on the morning of the arrest at the Magistrate Court in Nof HaGalil-Nazareth.
During the investigation, it emerged that Shibli allegedly identified with ISIS and watched material related to the group. The charge against him is joining a terrorist organization. This marks the fourth indictment in recent days against a resident of northern Israel for expressing sympathy with ISIS.
The Northern District Prosecutor's Office, represented by attorney Marina Rosenfeld, filed the indictment. The Shin Bet and the Israel Police stated they will continue to thwart activities by Israeli citizens seeking to act on behalf of terrorist organizations against Israelis and the State of Israel.
