Northern Israel Youth Indicted for ISIS Allegiance
The Northern District Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment on Monday against 19-year-old Yaakov Shabli at the Nazareth Magistrate's Court. Shabli is accused of expressing solidarity with and pledging allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS) organization. He was arrested on August 16th following a joint investigation by the Shin Bet security agency and the Northern District's Central Unit.
Investigations revealed that Shabli supported ISIS, consumed its propaganda, and swore an oath of loyalty to the group. This marks the fourth indictment in recent days against residents from the Northern region for similar offenses related to supporting ISIS.
Last week, prosecutors filed an indictment against 30-year-old Khamis Sawed from Al-Huseiniya, also in the North. Sawed was investigated by the Northern District police and the Shin Bet for expressing support for ISIS, training to join the group's fight abroad, and learning its methods.
