Jerusalem Man Arrested for Allegedly Throwing Mentally Ill Relative into Underground Trash Chute

Jerusalem police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempting to murder his relative, who suffers from a mental disorder. The incident occurred in the Gilo neighborhood of the capital, where the suspect allegedly threw the victim into an underground trash chute. Rescuers successfully extracted the victim, who was hospitalized in moderate condition at Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center.

The Israel Fire and Rescue Services reported that the rescue operation was urgent due to a lack of oxygen in the underground container. Rescuers managed to persuade the victim, who was initially resistant due to his severe mental state, to wear a hood that supplied oxygen. Rami Meir, commander of the rescue team, described the operation as "complex and dangerous," noting that it took over an hour to complete.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
