Man Arrested for Allegedly Throwing Brother into Hidden Trash Bin

Jerusalem police arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of attempting to murder his brother by throwing him into a hidden trash bin in the Gilo neighborhood. The victim, described as mentally unwell, was evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in moderate condition.

The suspect was brought before the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court for an extension of his remand. Fire and rescue forces who arrived at the scene faced a complex and life-threatening rescue operation due to a lack of oxygen and high concentrations of explosive gases within the bin. Firefighters had to persuade the victim to wear a rescue hood providing him with air while they pumped air into the bin to reduce gas levels.

The incident commander, Chief Fire Officer Rami Meir, described the rescue as difficult and dangerous, noting it took over an hour to complete. A crane from the Jerusalem Municipality was eventually used to lift the bin, estimated to weigh one ton with its contents. Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
