Man Charged with Murdering Brother Over Inheritance Dispute
The State Prosecutor's Office on Sunday filed murder charges against Ohad Arad, 36, from Binyamina, for the intentional killing of his brother, Assa Arad, approximately one month ago in the moshav of Ein Ayala in the Carmel region. The indictment, filed by attorney Najwa Suliman of the Haifa District Prosecutor's Office, details a financial dispute between the brothers that began in 2022, stemming from inheritance issues.
On July 30, the defendant allegedly went to his brother's caravan in Ein Ayala without prior arrangement. The indictment states that Ohad Arad then attacked his brother, Assa, with the intent to cause his death. The assault included striking Assa forcefully on the head and eye, and applying pressure to his neck and mouth in an attempt to suffocate him. Assa fell to the floor and attempted to defend himself but died at the scene.
Following the attack, Ohad Arad left the caravan, leaving his brother's body. He later informed their mother that Assa was dead but departed the moshav before emergency services and police arrived. Paramedics who responded to the scene found a 41-year-old man unconscious with no pulse or respiration and suffering from bodily injuries. They pronounced him dead.
Separately, a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly throwing his brother into a buried dumpster in the Gilo neighborhood of Jerusalem. Emergency services rescued the victim, who was taken to the hospital in moderate condition. The suspect was scheduled for a court hearing regarding an extension of his detention.
