Israeli Court Extends Detention of Man Suspected in Brother’s Murder Amid Shocking Forensic Evidence

The Hadera Magistrate’s Court extended the detention of Ohad Arad, a resident of Binyamina, for an additional four days on Thursday. Arad is suspected of murdering his brother Asa, who lived in their family home in Ein Ayala. Judge Ehud Kaplan ruled that the suspicion against Ohad had significantly strengthened, citing clear indications of intentional killing based on the confidential police investigation presented by investigator Sergeant Major Eugene Abramov from the Menashe Unit.

During the hearing, Abramov revealed disturbing forensic findings from the crime scene at the end of July, including blood spatters found not only on the walls but also reaching the ceiling. The police stated that the investigation is in its final stages, having received a third supplementary document from the Haifa District Prosecutor’s Office. Witness testimonies, both new and old, have further reinforced the suspicion against Arad, who was confronted with allegations of premeditated murder.

Arad’s defense attorney, Baruch Geda, objected to the prolonged detention, noting that his client had been held for three weeks and denied any violence toward the victim. The defense also challenged the police’s interpretation of injuries found on Asa Arad, disputing claims that the victim fell forward as the suspect alleges. The final pathological report, crucial for clarifying the circumstances of Asa’s death, has yet to be received. Geda emphasized that evidentiary and forensic questions remain and that no definitive conclusions should be drawn until the investigation is complete.

Judge Kaplan underscored the clear grounds for continued detention due to the severity of the crime and the suspect’s past, which further increases the risk he poses. The court rejected the defense’s requests for release or a significant reduction in detention days. The case remains under active investigation as authorities await the final forensic findings.
