Jerusalem Man Arrested for Allegedly Attempting to Murder Brother in Hidden Trash Bin

A 28-year-old man was arrested in Jerusalem on Sunday on suspicion of attempting to murder his brother by trapping him inside a public, hidden trash bin. Emergency services were alerted on Saturday after a person was discovered inside the one-ton bin in the Gilo neighborhood. Firefighters detected a lack of oxygen inside the bin, raising suspicions of foul play.

A crane from the Jerusalem Municipality was used to lift the bin, allowing rescue forces to extract the victim. He was found in moderate condition and transported to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital for treatment. Investigators from the Moriah police station in Jerusalem began examining the circumstances of the incident.

Evidence and documentation gathered during the investigation led authorities to suspect the victim's 28-year-old brother was involved. He was subsequently arrested and is being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder. His remand hearing is scheduled for Monday at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court.

Fire and Rescue Commander Rami Meir described the rescue as complex and dangerous, noting high concentrations of explosive gases within the bin. "We worked first and foremost to lower the gas concentrations and pump air into the bin," he stated. "After more than an hour of strenuous work, we managed to create the conditions that allowed his rescue and transfer for medical treatment."
