Man Rescued From Jerusalem Trash Bin, Brother Arrested for Attempted Murder

Firefighters in Jerusalem rescued a man found alive inside a buried trash bin in the Gilo neighborhood on Saturday. Emergency services were called to the scene and successfully extracted the individual, who was taken to the hospital in moderate condition.

Following the rescue, police from the Moriah station in Jerusalem launched an investigation into the circumstances of the man's fall into the bin. Evidence and documentation gathered during the probe raised suspicions that the victim's brother was involved. The brother was subsequently arrested and is being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder. He is expected to appear in the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court on Sunday for a remand extension hearing.

Firefighters were alerted to the incident during Shabbat and began rescue operations. Firefighters from the capital station, assisted by a special rescue unit, arrived at the scene. They detected low oxygen levels inside the bin using gas detectors. Initially, police believed the man might have mental health issues. Due to his condition and the risks involved, firefighters had to persuade him to wear a rescue hood that provided breathable air. Simultaneously, rescue teams pumped air into the bin with specialized equipment until gas concentrations significantly decreased. A crane from the Jerusalem Municipality was later called to lift the bin, estimated to weigh one ton with its contents.
