Another Israeli Citizen Missing in Nepal Floods

Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday that another Israeli citizen, 41-year-old Katerina Zukovic, is missing in the floods affecting Nepal and Tibet. Zukovic, who also holds a Belarusian passport and does not reside in Israel, was previously considered a missing Belarusian national. Israel's consulate in Kathmandu and the department for Israelis in distress abroad are in constant contact with her family and are working with local authorities to locate her.

Another Israeli, a 60-year-old man, is also among the missing. He was reportedly traveling with an organized group called Isha Sacred Walks to Mount Kailash in Tibet, a site for Buddhist ceremonies, and was participating in an event there when the disaster struck. Search efforts for him are ongoing.

Nepalese authorities reported a dramatic increase in the number of missing persons within their territory, rising from 2,502 on Sunday to 4,247 on Monday. The death toll also climbed from 781 to 903. On the Chinese side of the border in Tibet, authorities reported 16 deaths and 546 missing individuals, bringing the total number of missing to 4,793 across both regions.

Authorities on both sides of the border indicated that hundreds of foreign nationals are among the missing, including over 100 Indians and numerous tourists from the United States, Britain, Australia, and dozens of other countries. Many of these foreign nationals are members of the Indian diaspora who were in the region for pilgrimages to sacred sites. Nepal reported on Monday afternoon that 590 foreign nationals from 39 countries are missing within its borders, with an additional 323 foreigners rescued so far.
