Second Israeli Woman Missing After Nepal Floods; Another Israeli Still Unaccounted For

Six days after devastating floods struck Nepal, a second Israeli citizen, 41-year-old Katerina (Katya) Sakovich, has been confirmed missing. Sakovich, who held both Israeli and Belarusian citizenship and resided in Milan, disappeared after a powerful debris flow hit the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border crossing area on August 26. She was on a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash in western Tibet when she went missing.

Her family discovered that Nepalese records listed her only as a Belarusian citizen, prompting them to contact the Israeli Foreign Ministry. They requested official recognition of her Israeli nationality and assistance in coordinating search efforts with Nepalese, Chinese, and Belarusian authorities. The Israeli Consulate in Kathmandu and the ministry's department for Israelis in distress abroad are actively involved, maintaining contact with the family and working with local authorities and organizations.

Sakovich's sister, Darina Mikhnovich, is scheduled to travel to Nepal to join the search efforts. The search is ongoing for another Israeli man, in his 60s, who also went missing following the disaster. He reportedly crossed from Tibet into Nepal on the morning of the floods, shortly before the waters reached his location.
