French Brie Recalled in Israel Over Listeria Contamination Fears
Israeli dairy company Gad is initiating a voluntary recall of its imported Brie cheese due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recall was prompted after the French manufacturer of the cheese, Sasot Paturages Comtois, detected the presence of the bacteria during its own testing.
The affected product is "Brie - Ripe cheese with white mold, 33% fat," packaged in 130-gram containers, with an expiration date of September 7, 2026. The specific batch number is BFBN, and the barcode is 7290019635208.
Gad stated that it is working to collect the products from distribution channels in coordination with the Ministry of Health's Food Service. Consumers who have purchased the affected batch are urged not to consume the cheese.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause a serious illness called listeriosis. While it may cause mild or no symptoms in healthy individuals, it poses a significant risk to pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. In pregnant women, Listeria infection can lead to miscarriage, premature birth, and severe newborn infections.
