צה"ל ושב"כ הודיעו על מעצרו של מוחמד איברהים עבד אל-וואחאב שחאדה, בכיר בארגון הטרור פת"ח, בעיר טול-כרם שבשומרון. המעצר בוצע בבוקר ה-14 בספטמבר על ידי לוחמי יחידת "דובדבן" בפיקוד חטיבת "אפרים", בליווי מודיעיני של השב"כ. על פי הודעת צה"ל, המעצר התאפשר לאחר שבועות של פעילות מודיעינית ומבצעית. שחאדה היה מבוקש בחשד למעורבות בפעילות טרור, תכנון וביצוע פיגועים, וכן בסחר בנשק.
