Maccabi Netanya Condemns Violence Against Bnei Sakhnin Players and Fans After Match

Following violent incidents after the 0-0 draw between Maccabi Netanya and Bnei Sakhnin on Monday, Maccabi Netanya issued a strong condemnation of the attacks on vehicles belonging to Bnei Sakhnin players and fans. The club stated that it firmly opposes any form of violence or property damage, emphasizing that such behavior contradicts the values and sportsmanship the club upholds. They noted that these actions do not represent the conduct of their loyal fan base and harm both the club and the spirit of sport.

According to a statement from Bnei Sakhnin, one of the vehicles attacked belonged to player Iyad Abu Abid, who was inside the car with his pregnant wife at the time. The club reported that Abu Abid tried to avoid confrontation and leave the scene. Later, he was asked by police to stop and is scheduled to provide testimony at the police station the following day to clarify the circumstances. Bnei Sakhnin also reported that other vehicles were targeted, including one belonging to player Ilai Hajaj and another carrying a group of Bnei Sakhnin fans, among them a medical student.

The incident highlights tensions surrounding the match and raises concerns about fan violence in Israeli football. Authorities are investigating the events to hold those responsible accountable and prevent future occurrences.
