Former Labor Party Leader Shelly Yachimovich Reveals Pancreatic Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

Shelly Yachimovich, former chairwoman of Israel's Labor Party, disclosed on Sunday that she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer eight months ago. She underwent surgery to remove the tumor, which was detected at an early stage without metastases. Currently, she is receiving intensive chemotherapy every two weeks to prevent the cancer's return. Yachimovich shared the update in a personal social media post, emphasizing her practical and resilient mindset despite the challenges.

She described her condition as manageable, noting that scans have shown no recurrence of the tumor so far. Yachimovich acknowledged the difficulty of the treatment but rejected feelings of despair or victimhood, reflecting on the broader context of national tragedies since October 7, which have affected many young lives. She continues to live actively, cycling and socializing, while appreciating the support from friends, family, and medical staff.

Yachimovich praised the professionalism and dedication of the medical teams at Ichilov Hospital and the Ben Yehuda Clinic in Clalit Health Services. She expressed gratitude for modern medicine and the care she has received. Yachimovich, who transitioned from journalism to politics about two decades ago, took a break from politics in late 2019 and has since returned partially to media work, including hosting a radio show and writing opinion pieces.
