Former Labor Chair Shelly Yachimovich Reveals Pancreatic Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

Shelly Yachimovich, former chairwoman of Israel's Labor Party and media personality, disclosed on August 23, 2026, that she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer eight months ago. She revealed the diagnosis in a tweet on her X account, explaining that the tumor was detected early and without metastases. Yachimovich underwent immediate surgery to remove the tumor, and subsequent CT scans have shown no recurrence of the cancer.

Despite the positive scans, Yachimovich is currently undergoing intensive chemotherapy treatments every two weeks to combat the disease comprehensively. She described the chemotherapy as "quite tough" but emphasized that she does not feel overwhelmed by despair or fear. She stated her trust in modern medicine and her commitment to doing everything necessary to recover, while also acknowledging she is prepared for less optimistic outcomes. She continues to maintain a moderate lifestyle, including cycling, going to the beach, and meeting friends.
