Maccabi Tel Aviv Nears Deal to Sell Striker Sayid Abu Freih to Colorado Rapids

Maccabi Tel Aviv is close to finalizing a transfer deal for striker Sayid Abu Freih to the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer, with the agreement potentially closing as soon as today. Although Abu Freih has not yet agreed to personal terms with the American club, he is expected to do so once the clubs finalize the transfer. Colorado has offered $6 million for the player, but Maccabi is seeking a higher fee. To bridge the gap, additional bonuses tied to goals and achievements may be included in the deal.

Abu Freih's family is set to sell their 17.5 percent stake in the player's rights to Colorado. Meanwhile, Maccabi Tel Aviv will retain 25 percent of any future transfer fee for Abu Freih. The striker has become a key player for Maccabi, especially last season when he took on a leading role in the attack following Yon Nicolesco's injury. This season, Abu Freih has already scored four goals in four matches, including braces against Hapoel Be'er Sheva in the Champion of Champions match and a 5-0 victory over Sheriff Tiraspol in the Conference League qualifiers.

This transfer marks another potential exit from Maccabi Tel Aviv as the club looks to capitalize on its assets. The deal's completion depends on final negotiations, but all signs point to Abu Freih moving to the MLS soon.
