Man Kills Lawyer in Office Building in Rishon Lezion Over Financial Dispute

Security footage released on Tuesday shows the moments before a lawyer was fatally shot in an office building on Rozansky Street in Rishon Lezion. The suspect, a 23-year-old resident of Ramla, entered the lobby calmly and proceeded to the lawyer's office where the shooting occurred. After the incident, the suspect fled but later surrendered at the Ashdod police station. The lawyer's partner discovered him shot and immediately called emergency services, but the lawyer was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial investigations indicate the shooting stemmed from a financial dispute involving a 15,000 shekel compensation claim. The suspect alleged he had not received the compensation, while the lawyer claimed to have handed it to the suspect's father. It remains unclear whether the murder was premeditated or the result of a heated argument. The suspect does not have a license to carry a firearm. The suspect's attorney, Oren Sasson, plans to request a psychiatric evaluation for his client.

The lawyer's partner described hearing a brief conversation followed by gunshots, then seeing the suspect quickly leave the office. He expressed shock, emphasizing the victim's gentle nature and lack of criminal ties. The victim was due to travel abroad with his family soon. Amith Bechar, chairman of the Israel Bar Association, condemned the killing as a heinous crime and a severe blow to the justice system, highlighting the broader issue of societal violence.

Central District Police Chief Amir Cohen reported the suspect was apprehended with extensive police cooperation and confessed to the shooting. The investigation, led by the Central Unit in the Shfela region, continues to locate the weapon and gather full evidence. The shooting was reported at 13:05, and despite paramedics' efforts, the lawyer was declared dead at the scene.
