IDF Kills Senior Islamic Jihad Commander Involved in October 7 Terror Attack and Hostage Abuse

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a precise airstrike in the Deir al-Balah area, eliminating Mahmoud Fatair, a senior commander of the Islamic Jihad's Nukhba unit in the Central Camps Brigade. Fatair played an active role in the deadly October 7 infiltration into Israeli territory and was directly involved in holding Israeli hostage Rom Breslavski. He also appeared publicly in propaganda ceremonies where hostages were cynically presented by terrorist groups.

Fatair was part of the terror organization's propaganda efforts, attempting to depict hostages as "guests" despite their inhumane captivity conditions. He was documented participating in multiple hostage handover ceremonies involving Israeli captives such as Amit Shani, Ofir Engel, Moran Stella Yanai, Itay Regev, Liam Or Nasser, Raz Ben Ami, Paiboon Ratnin, Gong Sai Lao, Jakapan Sikna, and Charuatchai Saikaew.

Security sources noted that Fatair systematically worked to rebuild the terror infrastructure during recent ceasefire periods, preparing additional terror attacks against IDF forces and Israeli civilians. His activities included training militants and planning hostile operations in the area.

This targeted killing follows a series of recent IDF operations aimed at neutralizing immediate threats from the Gaza Strip. Earlier this week, the IDF eliminated Omar Ahmad Abu Qassem, a Hamas sniper leader, along with two other senior Nukhba commanders, Ali Simlekh and Nasser Luh, who were involved in terror planning and militant training.

The Southern Command continues its determined efforts to remove threats to Israeli soldiers and civilians in line with ceasefire agreements. The elimination of Fatair is regarded as a significant moral closure, given his active participation in the October 7 massacre and abuse of Israeli hostages during terrorist propaganda displays.
