IDF Kills Palestinian Islamic Jihad Commander Involved in October 7 Hostage Taking
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted an operation over the weekend in the Dir al-Balah area, killing Mahmoud Fatair, a commander of the Nukhba unit in the Central Camps Brigade of Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Fatair infiltrated Israeli territory on October 7 and was involved in holding the hostage Rom Breslavski captive within the terrorist organization. The killing was part of the sixth phase of Operation "Sky Gates."
IDF footage showed Fatair wearing the Palestinian Islamic Jihad uniform participating in a ceremony where multiple hostages were handed over, including Amit Shani, Ofir Engel, Moran Stella Yanai, Itai Regev, Liam Or Nasser, Raz Ben Ami, Paibon Ratnin, Gong Sai Lao, Jakapan Sikna, and Charuamchai Saigkai. The IDF spokesperson stated that recently, Fatair attempted to advance terrorist activities against Israeli forces and civilians, and his elimination was necessary to neutralize the threat.
