IDF Kills Hamas Commander Involved in Hostage Taking During October 7 Attacks
The Israel Defense Forces eliminated Sabhi Sami Mahmoud Shahatot, a Hamas military wing platoon commander, in an operation near Nuzirat on Wednesday. Shahatot infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7 massacre and played a key role in holding numerous hostages throughout the conflict. He also participated in a November 2023 ceremony marking the release of captives handed over to the Red Cross as part of Operation "Heaven's Gates." According to the IDF, Shahatot recently attempted to orchestrate terror attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians, prompting his targeted killing to neutralize the threat. Southern Command forces remain deployed in the area under existing agreements and will continue efforts to eliminate immediate dangers to Israel.
