IDF Kills Hamas Commander Involved in October Massacre and Hostage Holding

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the killing of Zibahi Sami Mahmoud Shahatot, a Hamas military wing platoon commander, in an operation in the Nuseirat area of the Gaza Strip. The strike took place two days ago, targeting Shahatot who was directly involved in the October 7 massacre and the captivity of numerous hostages throughout the conflict.

According to the IDF, Shahatot infiltrated Israel during the October 7 attacks and played a significant role in holding many hostages. Notably, he also participated in a November 2023 ceremony where hostages were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross as part of a prisoner exchange.

The military further stated that Shahatot continued to pose a threat by attempting to orchestrate terror attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers in recent times. The IDF emphasized that its Southern Command forces remain deployed in the area under existing agreements and will persist in operations to neutralize immediate threats.

This targeted killing is part of ongoing Israeli efforts to dismantle Hamas’s military capabilities following the October attacks and to secure the release and safety of hostages held by the group.
