Israeli Prison Officer Arrested for Assisting Suspect in Jerusalem Murder Escape

A 34-year-old female prison officer from Hod Hasharon was arrested on Tuesday morning on suspicion of aiding the main suspect in the murder of Benyahu Razi in Jerusalem. The arrest followed a covert investigation conducted jointly by the Israel Police and the Prison Service. Authorities suspect the officer maintained a personal connection with the brother of the suspect, Aviyur Sasson, who is currently on the run. Sasson's brother is an inmate serving a sentence in a central Israel detention facility where the officer works.

The investigation revealed that the officer allegedly collaborated with the inmate to obstruct the murder inquiry and assist Sasson's escape. The joint operation by the Crime Fighting Unit (YALP) in the Zion district of the Jerusalem police and Prison Service investigators led to her detention. She was transferred for questioning at the YALP offices in Jerusalem, and a decision on whether to bring her before the court will follow based on the investigation's findings.

Ruth Hila Zaken, head of investigations in the Zion district, emphasized that the manhunt for Sasson continues around the clock. She stated, "We will reach every person involved in the incident and anyone who aids in obstructing the investigation or the suspect's escape, aiming to uncover the truth and ensure all involved are held accountable." The police continue to seek public assistance in locating the fugitive suspect.
