Israeli Police Capture Suspect in Benyahu Razi Murder After Intense Manhunt

An intense manhunt ended dramatically on Wednesday morning at the entrance to Jerusalem when Israeli police arrested Abiyor Sasson, the main suspect in the murder of Benyahu Razi. The Jerusalem District Unit (YAMAR), working with the police aerial unit, tracked Sasson, who had been on the run since the killing. The investigation, led by Jerusalem District Commander Commissioner Avshalom Peled, utilized all available technological and intelligence resources to locate the suspect.

During his escape, Sasson moved between various hideouts in central and northern Israel to evade capture. The breakthrough came when police received a report that Sasson was traveling toward Jerusalem in a white shared taxi. Coordinated with aerial surveillance, YAMAR detectives set up a tactical ambush inside the Harel Tunnel. Video footage from police cameras shows the moment officers closed in on the taxi, quickly exiting their vehicles and apprehending Sasson as he exited the car, handcuffing him on the tunnel asphalt.

The manhunt began after the murder of Benyahu Razi. During the investigation, a 34-year-old female Israel Prison Service officer from Hod Hasharon was also arrested on suspicion of aiding Sasson's escape. She allegedly maintained contact with Sasson's brother, an inmate, and worked with him to obstruct the murder investigation and assist the fugitive. This led to her arrest following a covert investigation by the Crime Fighting Unit and Prison Service investigators.

After his arrest, Sasson was taken directly to interrogation at the Crime Fighting Unit in the Zion precinct. He is expected to appear before a Jerusalem magistrate court judge for a remand hearing. Rotem Hila Zaken, head of investigations in the Zion precinct, stated that the manhunt had been ongoing around the clock and that the investigation will now enter a critical phase following the dramatic capture.
