Police Intensify Investigation Into Disappearance of 22-Year-Old Eldar Dayan in Central Israel

The investigation into the disappearance of 22-year-old Eldar Dayan from Dimona has taken a dramatic turn as police question one of his friends over conflicting accounts. Dayan vanished last Friday after going out to central Israel with two friends, staying initially at a hotel in Tel Aviv. Late that night, Dayan sent a cryptic message saying "there is chaos here" before all contact was lost and his phone went offline.

Initial reports suggested a violent altercation occurred near Tel Aviv's Yarkon Park involving Dayan's group and another group of youths. However, police reviewing security footage found discrepancies that contradicted the friends' statements, particularly regarding their presence at the park. This led to urgent re-interrogation of one friend, who remains in custody as police consider extending his detention. Meanwhile, the other friend from the group is also missing, deepening the mystery.

New evidence places Dayan at a convenience store in Petah Tikva on Friday morning, prompting investigators to trace additional surveillance footage to determine his movements and contacts after that point. Dayan's mother, Shilat Na'im, traveled from Eilat to closely follow the investigation and expressed profound distress over the friends' contradictory testimonies and the disappearance of two young men she considers close to her son.

She pleaded tearfully for any information that could help locate Eldar, emphasizing the family's anguish and uncertainty about his wellbeing. Police, supported by volunteers and canine units, continue extensive searches across central Israel. Authorities stress that the coming hours are critical to unraveling the circumstances of Dayan's disappearance and resolving the case.
