IDF and Shin Bet Kill Hamas Commander Involved in Israeli Hostage Abductions
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet announced on Friday that they have killed Mohammed Naeem Jandia, the commander of the Yibna Battalion in Hamas's Rafah Brigade. Jandia played a key role in the October 7 attacks, including leading a special forces unit that raided Kibbutz Nahal Oz and abducted Captain Daniel Peretz. He also held Israeli hostages Yotam Hayim, Samer Al-Talalka, and Alon Shmoriz in an underground tunnel within the Shuja'iyya Battalion. These hostages were later killed by IDF fire.
Jandia served as the military security chief of the Shuja'iyya Battalion and was actively involved in planning terrorist attacks against IDF forces operating in the Gaza Strip. He was also a prominent masked participant in Hamas ceremonies related to hostage release negotiations. The IDF Southern Command stated that its forces remain deployed in the area according to operational agreements and will continue to act to eliminate immediate threats.
This operation marks a significant blow to Hamas's military leadership and disrupts ongoing terror activities in Gaza. The IDF and Shin Bet continue their efforts to secure the release of remaining hostages and maintain security in the region.
