IDF and Shin Bet Kill Hamas Terrorist Holding Three Hostages Shot Dead by Mistake
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet announced on Friday the killing of Hamas terrorist Mahmoud Naeem Jandia, who had been holding three hostages, Yotam Haim, Alon Shmeriz, and Samer Al-Talalka. Jandia was a key figure in the October 7, 2023, attack, serving as the head of the Nukhba unit that raided Kibbutz Nahal Oz and participated in the abduction of Captain Daniel Peretz. He was killed two days ago in an IDF strike in northern Gaza.
Jandia was the military security chief of the Shuja'iyya Battalion in Hamas's military wing and was one of the masked operatives involved in Hamas ceremonies related to hostage release negotiations. The three hostages had been held in Hamas tunnels since their abduction on October 7, 2023, but were accidentally shot and killed by IDF forces in December 2023.
The IDF unit mistakenly identified the hostages as Hamas militants when they were seen walking in an alley wearing Gazan clothing given to them by their captors, likely after escaping their holding place. The unit opened fire from a distance, resulting in the unintended deaths of the hostages.
