IDF Kills Hamas Terrorist Who Held Three Hostages Killed by Israeli Fire in 2023
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet announced on July 3, 2026, that they killed Mohammed Naeem Jandia, the military security chief of Hamas's Shuja'iya Battalion. Jandia was involved in the abduction of Captain Daniel Peretz and held three Israeli hostages, Yotam Haim, Samer Al-Talalka, and Alon Shmeriz, who were accidentally killed by Israeli fire in December 2023.
Jandia played a key role during the October 7, 2023 attack, leading the Nukhba unit that raided Kibbutz Nahal Oz and participated in Peretz's kidnapping. He was responsible for detaining the three hostages in an underground tunnel within the Shuja'iya Battalion. Recently, he also attempted to orchestrate terror attacks against IDF forces operating in the Gaza Strip.
He was a prominent figure within Hamas and one of the masked militants involved in ceremonies related to hostage release negotiations. The IDF Southern Command stated that forces remain deployed in the area according to agreements and will continue efforts to eliminate immediate threats. This operation marks a significant step in counterterrorism efforts following the tragic hostage incident.
