Israeli Air Force Kills Senior Hamas Commander Behind October 7 Nahal Oz Massacre and Hostage Taking
The Israeli Air Force conducted a targeted strike in northern Gaza on Wednesday, killing Mohammed Naeem Jandia, a senior Hamas military commander responsible for the October 7, 2023 massacre at Nahal Oz and the abduction of Captain Daniel Peretz. Jandia served as the head of the military security apparatus for the Shuja'iyya battalion within Hamas’s armed wing and was a key figure in planning and executing complex terror attacks against Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in Gaza.
Jandia led the Nukhba forces that breached the border fence and brutally attacked the Nahal Oz kibbutz during the October 7 assault, where he personally participated in the kidnapping of Captain Peretz, who was killed in action and whose body was taken to Gaza. As the IDF advanced in Gaza, it was revealed that Jandia held a strategic role overseeing the captivity of three Israeli hostages: Yotam Haim, Samer Al-Talalka, and Alon Shmoriz. The hostages were held under harsh conditions in a deep underground tunnel in the Shuja'iyya area until they accidentally died from friendly fire during an escape attempt.
Beyond his operational roles, Jandia was well known to Israeli intelligence through Hamas propaganda videos, where he appeared masked and in uniform during staged ceremonies marking prisoner release efforts. He also managed the handover of women and children to the Red Cross on camera. The elimination of Jandia marks a significant blow to Hamas’s military command and hostage operations in Gaza.
