Defense Minister Confirms FlyDubai Flight Incident Was Jihadist Attack Attempt
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed on Wednesday that the security incident aboard a FlyDubai flight was an attempted jihadist terrorist attack. Katz stated that the attack was thwarted thanks to the bravery of several Israeli passengers who rushed the cockpit, subdued the attacker, and regained control of the aircraft for the flight crew. "According to the initial information we have, the terrorist's intention was one: to crash the plane with all its passengers," Katz said.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also commented on the incident, praising the heroic passengers and ordering preparations for further threats. He emphasized the importance of heeding intelligence-based security warnings from himself and the Defense Minister, addressing both external enemies and "outdated individuals from within." Netanyahu clarified that these warnings do not replace proactive and offensive operations conducted with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) against any threat.
