Israeli Opposition Accuses Government of Politicizing Flydubai Incident
Israeli opposition leaders have thanked passengers of a Flydubai flight who reportedly intervened in a cockpit dispute, preventing a dangerous escalation. Simultaneously, they accused the government and its allies of attempting to exploit the incident for political gain.
Yair Golan, leader of the Democratic Party, praised the passengers' "exceptional resourcefulness and courage" while criticizing politicians for using their actions for internal political battles. Avigdor Lieberman, head of Yisrael Beiteinu, also acknowledged the passengers' bravery in a high-risk situation, stating that some politicians were trying to turn the event into "political capital."
Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett highlighted the passengers' courage, saying they saved lives. The incident occurred on a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The aircraft transmitted a signal indicating possible unlawful interference, made a sharp descent, and landed in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. An investigation into the event is ongoing. Following the incident, all Flydubai flights to Ben Gurion Airport are reportedly undergoing enhanced security checks.
