Defense Minister: FlyDubai Hijacking Attempt Foiled by Israeli Passengers
Defense Minister Israel Katz stated on Wednesday that a serious incident aboard a FlyDubai flight was an attempted jihadist attack, thwarted by the bravery of Israeli passengers. According to Katz, the passengers "stormed the cockpit, overpowered the hijacker, and with their own hands returned control of the aircraft to the additional flight crew present."
"Based on the initial information we have, the hijacker's intention was one: to crash the plane with all its passengers," Katz said. He added that the incident underscores the importance of listening to security warnings issued by the government.
Katz emphasized that these warnings, based on intelligence, are directed at both external enemies and "uninformed" internal elements. He further clarified that the warnings do not come at the expense of proactive and offensive operations conducted with the IDF against any threat, nor do they serve as a substitute for such actions.
