Health Ministry Shuts Tel Aviv Medical Center Over 'Grave, Immediate Danger'

The Israeli Ministry of Health has ordered the immediate closure of the Medica Tel Aviv medical center, citing severe deficiencies and unauthorized medical procedures discovered during a surprise inspection. The ministry warned of a "grave and immediate danger" to patient safety.

The inspection, conducted at the Medica facility on HaBarzel Street in Tel Aviv, revealed instances of medical procedures performed outside of professional scope and in violation of mandatory regulations, alongside other operational and medical conduct deficiencies. The Ministry of Health concluded that the findings raised serious concerns for the health and safety of patients.

As a result, the district health physician issued an order to cease all operations at the facility effective immediately, September 28, 2026, until further notice. No medical activity will be permitted at Medica Tel Aviv.

In addition to halting operations, the Ministry of Health intends to summon for a hearing the management, owners, and board of directors of the Medica network. The ministry is also considering personal sanctions against individuals found to have performed medical actions beyond their professional authority.

The ministry emphasized its zero-tolerance policy for any deviation from safety regulations and its commitment to using all available tools to protect patient health and safety. Medica Tel Aviv responded by stating that thousands of surgeries are performed monthly at the center by top Israeli doctors, meeting the highest medical and safety standards. They characterized the ministry's decision as sweeping and based on random findings, promising a formal response through established channels.
