Health Ministry Shuts Down Medica Tel Aviv Over Patient Safety Concerns

Israel's Ministry of Health has ordered the immediate cessation of all medical activities at Medica Tel Aviv, located at 28 HaBarzel Street in Ramat Hahayal, Tel Aviv, following a surprise inspection on Thursday. The inspection revealed serious findings concerning the operation of operating rooms and patient safety.

Among the critical issues identified were medical procedures performed outside of authorized professional scopes and mandatory instructions. The ministry also noted additional deficiencies in medical practices and work procedures, indicating a systemic failure in the hospital's management and posing an immediate and severe risk to patient health and safety.

Effective Monday, September 28, 2026, no medical activity will be permitted at the facility. The Ministry of Health has summoned all relevant parties, including the management of the Medica network, its owners, and its board of directors, for a hearing regarding the observed practices.

Furthermore, the ministry is considering personal sanctions against individuals found to have performed actions beyond their professional authority. These findings follow similar serious shortcomings discovered at Medica Rafael in July, which also led to an order to halt operations in its operating rooms. Activity at Medica Rafael has since resumed gradually after corrective measures were implemented.

The Ministry of Health emphasized its grave view of any violation of regulations designed to ensure safe medical treatment and pledged to use all available tools to protect patient well-being.
