Health Ministry Shuts Down Tel Aviv Medical Center Over Patient Safety Concerns

The Ministry of Health has ordered an immediate halt to all operations at the "Medika Tel Aviv" medical center in Ramat Hachayal, Tel Aviv, following a surprise inspection that revealed severe findings. The ministry stated that continuing operations at the facility posed a "grave and immediate danger to patients."

The inspection, conducted on Thursday, uncovered serious issues related to the management of operating rooms and patient safety. These included instances where medical procedures were performed outside of professional authorizations and required protocols, alongside other deficiencies in medical conduct and work processes. The ministry concluded that these findings indicated a systemic failure in the hospital's operations, posing a significant and immediate risk to patient health and safety.

As a result, the District Health Officer issued an order to cease all medical activity at the clinic, effective immediately and until further notice. The management, owners, and board of the Medika chain have been summoned for a hearing regarding the observed conduct. The Ministry of Health is also considering individual disciplinary actions against those found to have performed actions beyond their professional scope.

These current findings follow similar serious deficiencies discovered in July at the "Medika Rafael" facility, which also led the Ministry of Health to immediately suspend its operating room activities. Operations at Medika Rafael were gradually resumed only after the identified shortcomings were rectified and the management committed to adhering to licensing conditions and approved operational boundaries.

The Ministry of Health emphasized its commitment to enforcing regulations and professional authorizations to ensure safe medical treatment, stating it will utilize all available tools to protect patient health and safety.
