Health Ministry Shuts Down Private Tel Aviv Hospital Over Patient Safety Concerns

The Israeli Ministry of Health has ordered the immediate closure of the private "Medika Tel Aviv" hospital, located at 28 HaBarzel Street in Ramat HaChayal, Tel Aviv, citing severe and immediate risks to patient safety. The decision follows a surprise inspection conducted on Thursday, September 24, 2026, which uncovered serious deficiencies in the hospital's operations, particularly within its operating rooms.

Inspectors found instances where medical procedures were performed by individuals exceeding their professional authority and in violation of mandatory guidelines. The findings also revealed broader issues in medical conduct and work processes, indicating a systemic failure in the hospital's management and posing an imminent danger to patients' health and well-being. The District Health Officer issued an order to cease all medical activity at the facility effective Monday evening, September 28, 2026, until further notice.

In response to the findings, the Ministry of Health has summoned all involved parties, including the management, owners, and board of directors of the Medika network, for a hearing. Additionally, the ministry is considering personal sanctions against individuals found to have performed actions outside their professional scope.

This closure comes after similar serious deficiencies were identified at another Medika facility, "Medika Rafael," during a surprise inspection in July. Following that inspection, the Ministry of Health ordered an immediate halt to surgical activities at Medika Rafael. Activity at Medika Rafael was gradually resumed only after the identified shortcomings were rectified and the management committed to adhering to licensing conditions and ceasing unauthorized operations.

The Ministry of Health emphasized its zero-tolerance policy for any deviation from regulations designed to ensure safe medical treatment and pledged to use all available means to protect patient health and safety.
