Netanyahu Secretly Visited Abu Dhabi for Talks with UAE President

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a secret visit to Abu Dhabi on Sunday to meet with United Arab Emirates President Mohammed bin Zayed (MBZ). The trip, aboard a private jet, saw Netanyahu depart in the morning and return to Israel later the same day. This visit comes amid reports that MBZ had warned Netanyahu of a "seismic event" planned by Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar prior to the October 7th massacre. The discreet trip highlights discussions that reportedly occurred between the two leaders in the weeks leading up to the attack.

The meeting also underscores the strengthening ties between Israel and the UAE, particularly since the conflict with Iran. Notably, Israel has agreed to provide the UAE with a temporary Iron Dome missile defense system, operated by Israeli technicians, a significant move reflecting the deepened security cooperation. During Netanyahu's speech at the UN General Assembly, the UAE, alongside Bahrain, was among the few Arab nations to maintain representation, while many other delegations departed.

Emirati diplomats praised Israel's defense assistance, stating the decision to provide the system during wartime "will never be forgotten." They added, "It is good to know who your friends are in difficult times and who are not."
