Renowned Kabbalist Rabbi David Batsri Dies at 85

The world of Torah and Kabbalah is mourning the passing of Rabbi David Batsri, the chief Kabbalist and head of the "HaShalom" yeshiva, who died at the age of 85. Rabbi Batsri, known as a "holy and pure man," dedicated his life to Torah study, prayer, and "acquiring many" through his teachings. He was considered one of the leading disseminators of Kabbalistic wisdom in his generation.

Rabbi Batsri passed away after collapsing at his home in Bnei Brak and requiring advanced resuscitation efforts. Although paramedics managed to restore his pulse, he was sedated and ventilated and taken to Sheba Medical Center. Despite prolonged efforts by doctors, his condition deteriorated, and his death was pronounced.

Born in Jerusalem, Rabbi Batsri studied at the Porat Yosef yeshiva and was drawn to Kabbalah at a young age under the guidance of his uncle, Rabbi Salman Mutzafi. He devoted his life to studying the works of Rabbi Isaac Luria and Rabbi Shalom Sharabi, particularly the mystical intentions in prayer.

He founded the "HaShalom" yeshiva in Jerusalem, which became a global spiritual center for studying Kabbalistic texts and training scholars. Rabbi Batsri was known for his lengthy Kabbalistic prayer services and his deep mystical intentions. He was a central figure for thousands seeking advice, blessings, and salvation, and he led mass prayer events during national crises.

Prominent figures, including Israel's Chief Rabbi David Yosef, Shas party chairman Aryeh Deri, MK Avi Maoz, and MK Itamar Ben-Gvir, eulogized Rabbi Batsri, remembering his dedication to Torah, prayer, and the Jewish people. Deri recalled a close, decades-long friendship with the Rabbi, who he said supported him and the Shas movement through difficult times.
