Renowned Kabbalist Rabbi David Batsri Dies at 85

Rabbi David Shalom Batsri, a prominent Kabbalist and head of the "HaShalom" yeshiva in Jerusalem, passed away Friday morning at the age of 85. He was hospitalized after collapsing at his son's home in Bnei Brak. Despite resuscitation efforts and widespread prayers for his recovery, he was pronounced dead at Shiba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer.

Born in Jerusalem in 1941, Rabbi Batsri studied at the Porat Yosef yeshiva and deepened his Kabbalistic studies with his father-in-law, Rabbi Salman Mutzafi. He later established the "HaShalom" yeshiva with his son, Rabbi Yitzhak Batsri, focusing on mystical Torah studies and prayer intentions according to the teachings of Rabbi Shalom Sharabi.

Rabbi Batsri was known for his counsel and blessings, as well as for public rituals, including exorcisms, which garnered significant media attention. He continued his activities despite recent health issues and hospitalizations.

Leaders from across the Israeli religious and political spectrum mourned his passing. Chief Rabbi of Israel David Yosef praised Batsri's deep connection with his late father, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, and his profound knowledge of both revealed and hidden Torah. Interior Minister Aryeh Deri of the Shas party remembered Batsri as a close friend and supporter of the party, highlighting his humility and dedication to the Jewish people.

The funeral procession was scheduled to depart from the "HaShalom" yeshiva in Jerusalem on Friday afternoon, with burial to follow at the Sanhedria cemetery.
