Ambassador's Son Critically Injured in Terror Attack Undergoing Multiple Surgeries

Chani Leiter, mother of Neriah Leiter, son of Israeli Ambassador to the US, Yehiel Leiter, provided an update on her son's condition following a severe injury sustained in a terror attack at the Maccabim checkpoint on Thursday. Neriah, a reservist in his 30s, is in stable condition but suffering from a severe head injury. He has undergone two head surgeries and a total of three operations. He arrived at Shaare Zedek Medical Center unconscious and in critical condition, with doctors working to save his life.

"We are waiting. For now, he is stable, suffering from a severe head injury. He underwent 2 head surgeries, and 3 surgeries in total. He arrived in very serious condition," Chani Leiter told Channel 13. She added that the full impact of the injuries is not yet clear, but his life is currently in danger.

Neriah Leiter is the brother of Major Moshe Yedidiah Leiter, who was killed in Gaza on November 10, 2023. Ambassador Yehiel Leiter mourned the loss of his elder son, a company commander in the 697th Battalion, who was killed with three other soldiers shortly before entering Gaza. Despite this loss, Neriah continued his reserve duty, serving hundreds of days on various fronts since October 7.

Ambassador Leiter expressed gratitude to the IDF and the medical team at Shaare Zedek for their efforts, stating, "I believe in the power of prayer and believe that when the people of Israel unite, miracles happen. Neriah needs a miracle." He also condemned Palestinian terrorism, asserting, "Palestinian terrorism aims to uproot the people of Israel from their land. They choose death, we choose life."

The IDF announced that the attacker was neutralized following the incident.
