Israeli Ambassador to US's Son Critically Injured in West Bank Attack
Neriah Leiter, son of Israel's Ambassador to the United States, Yehiel Leiter, is in very serious condition following a terror attack at a checkpoint on Route 443. Neriah underwent complex brain surgery that lasted for hours and his life is in danger, according to Shaare Zedek Medical Center.
Ambassador Leiter arrived in Israel on Thursday morning and immediately went to the hospital to be with his son. Neriah's mother, Chani Leiter, described the family's shock in an interview with Galei Tzahal, saying, "We are still in shock. His wife keeps saying, 'I can't believe this is happening to us.'" She added that her grandson, Neriah's 11-year-old son, was informed of the incident by his mother and friends.
Despite the family's distress, a new granddaughter was born to the family overnight, a daughter of one of Neriah's sisters. Chani Leiter spoke of her son's character, stating, "He was amazing. We are clinging to life."
Medical teams, including surgical and intensive care units, are continuing to provide life-saving treatment to Neriah, with social workers providing support to the family.
