Israeli President Pardons Soldier Convicted of Manslaughter
Israeli President Isaac Herzog has accepted Defense Minister Israel Katz's request to cancel the criminal record of Elor Azaria, a former IDF soldier convicted of manslaughter. This decision was made despite opposition from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
Azaria was convicted in 2017 for shooting and killing a Palestinian assailant who had already been subdued during an incident in the West Bank city of Hebron. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison and served approximately nine months.
