Four Indicted for Attempted Drug Smuggling into Jordan
Authorities have indicted four individuals, including two brothers from northern Israel, one of whom is a minor, and two from southern Israel, on charges of "violating state sovereignty on the border." The indictment follows an attempted drug smuggling operation into Jordan via the eastern border.
On August 22, 2026, a joint operation involving the Northern District's Central Unit, the IDF's 417th Brigade, and the Border Police's "Matilan" unit detected suspects near the border fence. During the operation, 36 packages containing approximately 20 kilograms of hashish were thrown into Jordanian territory. Border unit fighters apprehended the suspects after they fled the area and recovered the drugs on the Jordanian side.
The four suspects were arrested and transferred for further investigation. The Northern District Prosecutor's Office has filed the indictment against them at the Nazareth-Nof HaGalil Magistrate's Court.
This foiled smuggling attempt is part of a broader effort by security forces to combat drug trafficking along the eastern border, which has resulted in the seizure of approximately 700 kilograms of drugs in recent months.
