Three Israeli Men Indicted for Smuggling Drugs Across Jordan Border in Precedent Case
The Northern District Prosecutor's Office filed charges on Wednesday against three residents of Kfar Mazar, aged 26, 30, and 41, for drug smuggling, possession, and violating state sovereignty. A joint investigation by the Northern District Central Unit and the Shin Bet revealed that the trio coordinated with drug suppliers to obtain 50 kilograms of hashish worth millions of shekels, intended for transfer to Jordan.
In July, the suspects traveled by pickup truck to a drop-off point where they collected ten packages containing the hashish. They then transported the drugs to the eastern border fence, where they threw the packages across the border to be collected by Jordanian contacts. Each suspect was to receive approximately 100,000 shekels for their role in the export.
The indictment was submitted to the Nazareth-Nof HaGalil District Court by attorney Ohad Cohen. The charge of violating state sovereignty carries a maximum sentence of nine years in prison. This charge is considered precedent-setting, having been filed only once before in southern Israel, and now for the second time in the north.
