Israeli Police Foil Last-Minute Attempt to Smuggle 20 Kg of Hashish into Jordan

Israeli authorities arrested four suspects on Sunday for attempting to smuggle approximately 20 kilograms of hashish from Israel into Jordan via the eastern border. The suspects reportedly threw 36 packages containing the drugs over the border fence into Jordanian territory near the settlement of Hamadiya. The suspects fled the scene but were quickly apprehended by joint forces including the Border Police unit of the Northern District, the Border Police Intelligence Unit, and the Jordan Lions Battalion. The seized packages were recovered on the Jordanian side.

Among the four detainees are two brothers from northern Israel, one of whom is a minor, and two residents from southern Israel. Following a court hearing in Nazareth, three of the suspects will remain in custody until August 30, while the fourth's detention was extended until August 26. This incident is part of a series of thwarted drug smuggling attempts along the Jordanian border in recent months, with hundreds of kilograms of various drugs seized, valued at millions of shekels.

Earlier this month, the Northern District Prosecutor's Office indicted three residents of Kfar Matzar for coordinating with drug suppliers to smuggle 50 kilograms of hashish worth millions of shekels into Jordan. The ongoing enforcement efforts highlight the authorities' commitment to combating drug trafficking across Israel's eastern border.
