Police Officer Injured During Dramatic Pursuit in Rishon LeZion

A police officer from the Rishon LeZion station sustained minor injuries on Monday evening while attempting to arrest a suspect wanted for multiple theft and burglary incidents. During the police pursuit, the officer clung to the suspect's moving vehicle, but was thrown to the road and injured when the suspect accelerated. The suspect, a man in his 20s from Or Yehuda, was apprehended shortly thereafter.

The incident began during routine activity by two officers from the Rishon LeZion station. They identified the suspect, who was sought by their station and several others for involvement in various property crimes, including thefts and building break-ins. When the officers approached the suspect and asked for identification, he entered his vehicle and attempted to flee.

One officer, seeing the suspect's escape attempt, engaged him and tenaciously tried to prevent his getaway and make an arrest, holding onto the car door. The suspect continued driving with the officer clinging to the vehicle until she fell and was injured. She was evacuated for medical treatment with her condition described as light.

Following the incident, police forces launched extensive searches and a manhunt for the suspect. After an operational effort, he was located and arrested for questioning. The police are expected to request an extension of his detention from the Rishon LeZion Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, depending on the investigation's needs and findings.
