Police Chase in Beit Shemesh Ends in Shooting and Injuries

A dramatic police chase unfolded in Beit Shemesh on Wednesday after officers attempted to stop a driver suspected of being under the influence of drugs. The incident escalated when the suspect, a man in his early 30s, fled and struck two police officers, who sustained minor injuries. During the pursuit, police fired shots at the suspect's vehicle to neutralize the threat.

Emergency responders were called to Ma'apilim Street, where they found the suspect semi-conscious with penetrating injuries to his upper body. He was rushed in serious condition to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. Paramedics and volunteers from "Hatzalah" provided initial medical care, including bleeding control and respiratory support.

The police confirmed that the suspect accelerated toward the officers during the arrest attempt, prompting the use of gunfire in response to the immediate danger posed to the officers' lives. The two injured officers were treated and released with light injuries. The circumstances leading to the shooting remain under investigation.
