Suspect Rams Police in Beit Shemesh, Officers Shoot and Seriously Wound Him
A serious incident occurred on Wednesday during an operational activity by detectives from the Beit Shemesh police station on HaMaapilim Street in the city. A 31-year-old driver, suspected of driving under the influence of drugs, accelerated his vehicle towards the officers and struck two of them. In response, the police opened fire at the vehicle, seriously wounding the suspect.
The two officers who were hit were evacuated to the hospital with minor injuries. The suspect was also taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in serious condition under police escort. First responders from United Hatzalah, paramedics Asher Youngeriz and Menachem Weizman, provided initial medical treatment including stopping bleeding and bandaging before the suspect was transported to the hospital.
The police acted due to the immediate threat to their lives posed by the suspect's actions. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
